Take the Handmade Pledge

We would like to do something to save the planet, stop pollution and stamp out world hunger. Most of us can’t act on that scale. We can do something locally that can make a difference. You can take the “Handmade Pledge”.When I moved to the mountains I was concerned that I would not have places to shop. (except for the large chain that seems to be in every city, no matter how small) It’s a two and a half hour drive to any big city that boasts a mall. I started looking around at small independant stores that featured local artists and crafts people. I visited every craft show that was around. I found more than enough gifts, home decorating items, even clothes that were handmade. I try to buy only handmade items now. I feel better shopping that way. I have saved gas, I spent my money in my own area. I have helped a fellow crafter. The money the crafter makes helps them stay in business, doing what they are passionate about. Whatever money that person spends stays right in the area, too. It’s a win, win situation.So, take the pledge, buy handmade. You’ll be doing one small thing that could make a real big difference.
