Making a Danish Christmas Star

In this special Christmas episode Jackie demonstrates the Danish craft of making a Christmas Star to hang on your tree or in front of a window. Very easy to make with leftover scraps. Another holiday episode will be uploaded next week. Our new season will start in January.

Christmas Open House 2010

Every year I think I’m going to be so organized that everything will fall into place with ease. Ha !!! I should know better by now. I have one Christmas gift purchased so far. I did bake some cookies yesterday and put up the tree but that’s it.

Carolina Crafting, the shop, is having an open house on Saturday, Dec. 11 form 12-5PM. There will be refreshments, door prizes and lots of great items to finish your Christmas shopping. Silva Gallery will be having their open house, too. They are having wine and cheese. Pam has some wonderfully warm knit items that are perfect for this time of year.

The Shops of Brasstown Village is located in Brasstown, NC across from Clay’s Corner (home of the Possum Drop) If you are in the area, come on by.

10 Days of Fun

Well, today I take my camera guy back to the airport. What a fun filled 10 days we’ve had taping shows. We visited with stain glass artists, a long arm quilter, visited all the shops in Brasstown for updates, even checked over at Clay’s Corner to see what was planned for the Possum Drop. I did a great craft show at the Brasstown Valley Resort. Promoters, Lee and Robin, were wonderful, the show successful. The most fun show coming up, in my opinion, will be the visit to the alpaca farm. A sweet alpaca named Azalea took quite a liking to me. She is so sweet. I even learned to felt. I now have a new favorite craft.

We went to Asheville to tape the BBQ show I produce, www.gityerqontheroad.com. We ate lots of wonderful food that day.

This coming season I will actually be making some crafts. Maybe even a crafty tip or two.

I can hardly wait for the new season to begin

Christmas Craft Shows

In the up coming weeks we are going to be able to attend different craft show every weekend. This weekend is the The Mistletoe Market  at North Georgia Technical College in Blairsville, Georgia on highway 76 across from Meeks Park.
Friday is a SPECIAL PREVIEW PARTY FROM 6 pm to 9 pm with food available! Saturday is 9 am to 5 pm, Sunday is 11 am to 4 pm. The TEAROOM will have lots of great food available for everyone! (I believe there is a charge for the Friday night preview)

Next weekend there is the Holiday Extravaganza at the Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris Georgia. The show is Friday and Saturday, 10-5. (I’ll be at that show. Stop by and say Hi!)

Next week starts the taping of next season’s craft shows. I’m always excited about this process. This season, I’m featuring ways and places you can sell your crafts. We can all make wonderful things but finding the right market to sell in is sometimes elusive.

November 27, 2010—the first-ever Small Business Saturday. Get out on Saturday after Thanksgiving and shop in your local small businesses. We appreciate your business !!!

Check out your local paper for craft shows in your area.

Just Add Color

I love my little shop, even if it’s brimming over with great art and crafts and I need more space. I was OK with it just being gray like the rest of the shops but when Silva Gallery painted her shop green and purple, I got paint envy. After getting permission from the shops’ owner, it only took me a few months to talk my husband into painting it. Finally it’s done and I love it. (well, almost love it. I’m not keen on the darker trim, to me it has too much green in it) It does brighten up my end of the world and draws attention to the shops in general.

Now to convince Casper that I need a lot more shelves on the wall and maybe some new flooring…….

New Friends

‘Tis the season to start making all your crafty Christmas decorations and gifts. I have been working on snowmen (two different kinds) possum ornaments, aprons, kitty duvets and many more things. I don’t seem to have anything FINISHED !!! I’m participating in a craft show November 26 & 27 at the Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris, Ga and I really need to finish something !!

I’m always looking for new ideas and I really wanted to find a craft that reflected my husband’s Danish culture. I have a couple friends on Facebook from Denmark that are crafters. I love his blog. He has some great Danish Christmas decorations and recipes. I made a comment on the Christmas stars he had made and he was kind enough to send me the pattern. Actually, it was the neatest surprise. He sent templates, instructions and two stars, finished. So now I have another project started.

Tak, Christian and Marc. God Jul !!!

In our final episode of this season Carolina Crafting visits the fun tradition of the “Possum Drop” on New Years Eve in Brasstown, NC. “A Southern Thing”, the drop (more like a lowering) of the possum at the stroke of midnight is preceded by a “Womanless Beauty Pageant” a “Hillbilly Rodeo” and much singing and merriment. Clay Logan, owner of “Clay’s Corner” has organized and hosted this event for the past 15 years. So when making your New Years Eve plans why not join in on the fun of different type of family celebration.

Plan Ahead

Fall has arrived in the mountains and it is beautiful. I love the smell of fallen leaves, the crunch they make when you walk on them and having a fire in the fireplace. (sigh) But Fall is all too brief, Winter will be here soon.

So now is the time to plan your winter vacation. The video coming out tomorrow is this past New Year’s Eve in Brasstown, NC.  We have this great celebration and at midnight we drop a possum. Yes, you read right, a possum. (it is well cared for and never is harmed. I think the possum’s vie for a place to ride in a car with Miss Possum and be in the spotlight for one short night)

Enjoy tomorrow’s video and make plans to join us this year. Drop by Carolina Crafting and mention you saw the video and I will give you a Possum Button. See you then .
