Moving Experiences

There are times in your life when something cool just happens. This happens to me a lot. The experience I thought was going to happen exceeds my expectations beyond my wildest dreams. This all started at the John Campbell Folk School’s Fall Festival. Dana from old red barn company introduced me to her friend Tipper from blind pig and the acorn.  Tipper came out to my shop and put some of her work in the shop and we scheduled a time to tape a show with her.

The day of taping was so cold but she had made the most warm and inviting setting for a show. (even homemade cookies, yummy) She claimed to be nervous but I couldn’t tell. The segment went really well. We were taping another segment with the family band. What a group. Three generations of musicians, keeping the music of the mountains alive.  There’s were the unexpected happened. They played a song that touched me in a way I can’t describe. I’m still humming it and it’s been weeks. It’s the kind of song you can picture times in your life. Like a music video in your head. It’s call “I’ll be Young” It will be on a web cast sometime in the Spring.I hope it touches you’all too.

Tipper’s “Pap” was one of the band members and he had such wonderful stories of Murphy in the past. I could have listened to him tell stories ALL day. Tipper’s brother is so talented. He has a CD coming out soon. I’ll let you know where to get a copy.

I’m so glad I got to meet this family.
