This week I was lucky enough to meet Patti Tappel from Missouri. She was in town to attend classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School. I have been reading her blog www.osagebluffquilter.blogspot.com for years so when I saw her I recognized her right away. I felt like I had been her friend forever. Yesterday we had a great adventure. We were going to hit all the thrift stores in town but I had a chance to see an old dance hall on top of a mountain. Well, if you’ve ever been in this part of NC you know about our one-lane, drop off one side roads. We were doing OK until I stopped on wet leaves to shift into low and got stuck. I could not go forward and it was hard to back down to pavement because of the curves. Patti got out of the truck and walked up and so did I !!!! Thank goodness we were following someone up there and he came back and got the truck up the mountain. What a hoot. Once we got up there the view was just incredible. The dance hall needs a lot of work but could become something special with a little love (and money)

After our heart stopping adventure we did mange to visit 4 thrift stores, two craft shops and eat Mexican food. It was a great day.

I did open a second location at Foster’s Trading Post in Murphy NC.  Foster’s is located at 100 Blairsville Hwy, Murphy. For the local folks, it’s where the old flea market burned down.

This is not the most current picture of the space but you can get the idea. It’s a cute little space. I’m right next to Back Creek Pottery.

I’m not very scientific, I just put the names in a bowl (the bowl I use is a hand hewn bowl by Jed Green, who will be at Fall Festival) and close my eyes and pick.

So this weekend I’m loading up the truck and headed over the mountain. If you are in the area please come by and say “hello”.

The show is Sept.29 and 30, 10 am to 5 pm on Sat. and 10 am to 4 pm on Sun. Over 70 juried artist from thoughout the Southeast will be displaying their work.

It’s time for my favorite arts and craft show, too. The John C. Campbell Folk School Fall Festival. It’s October 6 and 7 at the Folk School in beautiful Brasstown, NC. I have two sets of tickets to give away this year. All you need to do is leave a comment here or on my Facebook page. I will have the drawing Sunday Sept. 30.  Good luck. One of last year’s winners turned out to be an old friend from high school in Florida that I had not seen in over 40 years. (too cool)

The first I heard about second hand. A girl (now a grown woman) had posted on Facebook that “you knew you from Dunedin, Fl.” if you were in the Christmas Parade with Mrs. Campbell’s (me) Girl Scout Troop. What a great reminder that of that girl and of that time. This year is the 100 anniversary of Girl Scouts in America.

The second reminder was found in a box sent to me a couple of weeks ago.

When I worked at Disney I had a really good friend who did crafts with me. We had a lot of fun. I was making cute little hat magnets at the time and needed milk bottle caps to make them.

It’s been at least ten years since I asked her to save the caps for me. Well, she now has three children and every time they finished a bottle of milk over the years they have saved the caps for me. It absolutely moves me to tears to think she would remember. I know I think of her often and am so proud of her, not only with her job but with the wonderful family she now has.

It might be just a box of milk caps to some but it’s a big box of love to me.

I needed to be sure they worked so I hung one at the shop in Brasstown. It didn’t work for about a week and then one morning I found 6 in the bottle. Yea !! It worked !!!

So if you are in need of a “Buzz Killer” you can find them at my shop, Carolina Crafting, in Brasstown, NC (open Thursday, Friday and Saturday) or at the Trading Post at Foster’s Flea Market (19/129 and 64)  They are open 7 days a week. Just look for Back Creek Pottery.  I will ship, too.
