Carolina Crafting

Jackie explores the Mountain Morning shop in Andrews, NC which features Jams, jellies, handcrafted items such as dolls, wreaths and more which are often made from agricultural products such as corn husks, grapevines and okra. We also learn about the charity work of the Far West Mountain Economic Partners, the organization behind this shop and other projects.

In this episode we learn how to make rustic furniture out of willow branches from craftsman Jo Kilmer. Jo also demonstrates how she makes jewelry from willow bark and stones at her workshop in Murphy, N.C. Jo is featured in the book called  ”Making Willow Furniture; Three Women Share Their Art”. Due to some technical difficulties (i.e. time code problems with the second video) and the fact that Jackie’s husband Casper had a massive heart attack and stroke a week ago Friday we will be postponing the uploading of part 2 of the Murphy Heritage Festival. It will be scheduled at a later date.

We here at Cutter Media are pulling for Casper who is making a remarkable recovery. After he has recuperated sufficiently from the stroke he will still need bypass surgery . We plan on taping our third season of shows in April but will need to work around Casper’s surgery. We’ll get it all done eventually. Just as long as Casper gets well.

Our last episode of this season will feature Tipper’s folk art from “Blind Pig & the Acorn” along with the Wilson Family Band. This show should go online on March 30th.
