The 3rd Annual Young Harris Spring Show unites art lovers who love dogs and dog lovers that love art. The show is being held Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm in the Mayor’s Park in Young Harris, Ga.

Come visit me, I’ll be right past the alpaca’s. I’ll have a huge supply of “Buzz Killer’s” for sale. These are the carpenter bee traps that will rid you of those pesky bees.

There is a craft show in almost every community around this weekend..check your paper and go out and support your local artist.

Celebrate Spring

Downtown Brasstown is going all out to celebrate SPRING !!! Saturday and Sunday we will roll out the red carpet for the beginning of the season. Arts and crafts, demos, a bake sale, learn about blue birds AND to get the guys to come out, they can go up the road to the gun show at the community center. something for everyone !!!!!

Carolina Crafting is on a cupcake binge. Come check out all the new products we have that are “all about the cupcake”

Carpenter Bees

It’s funny how something as simple as a bee can finally bring my crafting “skills” together with my husband’s. The wooden houses here in the mountains are like lunch to the carpenter bees that fly around here. Casper knew there had to be a way to trap those bad boys. He finally came up with a plan..I decided that we should just use recycled materials. And, I thought it should be cute. As you’all know, I love cute.

I needed to be sure they worked so I hung one at the shop in Brasstown. It didn’t work for about a week and then one morning I found 6 in the bottle. Yea !! It worked !!!

So if you are in need of a “Buzz Killer” you can find them at my shop, Carolina Crafting, in Brasstown, NC (open Thursday, Friday and Saturday) or at the Trading Post at Foster’s Flea Market (19/129 and 64) They are open 7 days a week. Just look for Back Creek Pottery. I will ship, too.

PlottFest

What is a Plott, you ask ???? I had to ask too. A Plott is a breed of dog. It’s the offical state dog of North Carolina. I did not know there was a state dog!!! I love when I can learn something new.

The PlottFest is in Haywood County, April 21. Check out their website www.plottfest.com. They have a great music line up. This is a fund raiser for Head Start.

Winter Blahs

Yep..every winter I get the blahs. I should be crafting and planning this year’s work but I sit and read. I love to read, so it’s not a total loss.

I’ve been a little down over the fact I can’t tape new shows until my camera guy/friend/editor is up to traveling again. I’ve found all kind of cool crafters to feature but I have to wait for a while longer.

I’ve found a new sewing passion. I LOVE to make pillow cases for travel size pillows.

I borrowed a cute cradle to display them in.

The shop has been closed most of the winter but starting March 1, I will be open every Thrusday, Friday and Saturday, 11am till 4 pm. New items have been arriving so come on by and check them out.

New Possum Book

If you ever wondered how we get our possum for the Possum Drop, you need to read the new children’s book about Pete, the possum and his quest to be the New Year’s Eve possum. It’s a really cute little story written by a local crafter, Pat Litchfield.

The book is sold only at my shop, Carolina Crafting and it’s only $5.99. This is a super good reason to come to Brasstown and check out the shops.

Pat presented the first copy to Clay Logan right before the Possum Drop. He approves !!!

Come check it out. Not all the shops in Brasstown are open right now because of the weather but Morning Song Galley and I are toughing it out. (as long as the snow and ice stay away) We are open Thrusday, Friday and Saturday 11 am to 4 pm.

First craft show of the season is fast approching. It’s the Sweetheart Show at the Brasstown Valley Resort, (Young Harris, Ga.) Feburary 11 and 12. 10 am to 5 pm. Come say “Hello”

New Season

We were all set for a taping of a new season when Ron, my cameraman/editor/best friend got really sick. I mean, hospital sick and right before Christmas. Ron never gets sick !! Well, he will not be able to travel to North Carolina for at least 4 months so there will be no new shows for a while. I will try to keep you all informed with shows, applications and what ever little tidbit of craft gossip I can come across. Not as much fun as the shows, I know. We are really sorry but sometimes life just gets in the way.

Speaking of that, my husbands health has been holding steady. As long as he doesn’t try to do too much, he’s fine.

Thanks for being such loyal fans. We will have shows back up as soon as we can.

Goodbye 2011

Another year is coming to an end. Hard to believe how fast time goes. This year has been a year of mixed blessings. I won’t mention the worrisome parts. BUT…I must talk about the good.

I met some wonderful artists that allowed me to come into their studios and tape them. I wish I had pictures of all of them to post. (watch their shows, you can see what wonderful spirits they are)

Craft shows were wonderful. Sales were good. Met some new folks and had some yummy BBQ

The shop did well, too. I love the folks I meet that walk thru my door. I’m looking forward to another fun year. I’m going to re-do the layout of the shop, just to “mix it up”.

The most fun I had this year was putting on a fund raising craft show for the Brasstown Community Center. It was everything I had hoped it would be. Fun, food and a community spirit. I’m looking forward to the second annual Gingerbread Christmas.

But for now I’m going to kick my feet up and relax until “next year”

Gingerbread Christmas

It really does take a village to take on a big project. Brasstown NC is a very small community with tons of talent. There is an artist or crafts person at every turn of the road. When I decided that I wanted to put on my own craft show, I did not have to venture outside my own community. Gingerbread Christmas, Dec. 10 and 11 from 10 am to 5 pm both days. ALL of the participants (24 of us) either live in Brasstown or have their work in one of the shops in Brasstown. Could we be any more “local” ??? To keep with the theme of the season, we are all small businesses and everything is Made in America.

Hope to see you at the show. Come by my booth (to the left of the stage) and tell me you found out about the show from my blog or from facebook and you can register for a drawing of cool gingerbread items.

After the show stop by the Shops of Brasstown Village and visit Silva Gallery. Pam has a new tapestry. Morning Song Studio is having their Christmas Open House and Frog and the Dragon will be open, too. Lots of great local art in a small community.

Shop Local…Shop Often

‘Tis the season to start your Christmas shopping. This year, more than ever, it is important to shop local. I try my best. Actually, most of my shopping is done right in Brasstown. Between Silva Gallery, Morning Song Studios, Frog and the Dragon and my shop (Carolina Crafting) you can find something for everyone. All of our gifts are “Made in America”.

There are shops like this in almost every town in America. Look for them this year and keep your money close to home. Another great source of gifts are craft shows. Right now there has to be a craft show somewhere within driving distance every weekend from now until Christmas. I will be posting a list of shows soon for this area so you can mark your calender.

Carolina Crafting is getting some Christmas items in already.
