Bobbi Umbach

Born in Athens, Alabama   Studied mathematics and science through high school and college adding a Master of Science degree in Microbiology and an MBA in Marketing, post graduate.

Worked in the science side of things for a limited time before discovering she much preferred people to Petri dishes.  Spent much of her career in Sales and ended up as Vice President of Training and Development for an international Human Resource Consulting firm.

Bobbi didn’t discover her “artistic” side until after she had retired from the business world to the mountains of western North Carolina.  She moved here with her husband, the Artist in the family at that time, so that he would be in an environment conducive to the continuing of his artistic endeavors.

Once established in Murphy, North Carolina, to pass the time, she enrolled in classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School.  In the past 7 years, she has taken almost 60 classes in a variety of artistic areas, but became fascinated with glass as an artist’s medium after taking an introductory kiln-formed glass class at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina.

“The never-ending possibilities for shaping glass fill my

days and satisfy my need to be creative.  Glass is an

un-ending vision of light and color.  It can transmit and

reflect light, creating different experiences depending

on when and where light and shadow strike the piece.

My hope is that some of my excitement and vision will

also speak to the people who see my pieces.”

She has been working in fused glass for about 6 and a half years now and has taken many Fused Glass classes, including a number of advanced classes.  She works out of her home studio in Murphy, North Carolina and teaches Fused Glass at the John Campbell Folk School.

Her work is represented in the following galleries:

Grovewood Gallery, Ashville, North Carolina

Multitudes Glass Gallery, Blue Ridge, Georgia

Morning Song Studio, Brasstown, North Carolina
