Signs

I finally got some signs for the shop. This is not the best picture but you can see it’s an improvement. People didn’t realize there was even a shop back there.  I still want to paint the pink door and change the color of the awning. One thing at a time.  I hope to have all the changes done by Spring. I’ll keep you’all posted.

Cool Things

Posted in General  by: jax1215
October 28th, 2008

Today was a day for really cool things. First thing this morning we noticed it was snowing. I know that’s not a big deal to most folks but this old Florida girl gets really excited when it snows. It’s only October !!!! All the old timers are saying it’s going to be a bad winter. Black woolly worms, larger than normal acorns, thicker bark, all the sure signs.

Second cool thing was a flock of wild turkeys walking around my front yard. We’ve just moved to a place with more land and we are so excited about the abundance of wild life. We’ve seen a mama and two baby deer, too.

Third cool thing was I got an email from a quilter in Missouri. I love hearing from other crafters.

I actually did do some crafting today. I made two dog beds for my Huskies. I used two old duvets my husband had brought from Denmark and covered them with a flannel sheet. (I love to recycle and reuse things) I added Velcro to the end for easy removal for washing. Mickey loves his but Blue is still unsure.

Tomorrow has to be a better craft day. Only one month until my next craft show.

Time For Another New Show

I’m really excited about the show that’s going up next.  I met two amazing women, one young and one young in spirit.  I had read about Dana on her blog. (I love reading other crafter’s blogs.) I’m so glad I have finally got to meet her. Check our her blog, too. You’ll see why I think she is so cool.

Speaking of cool, I didn’t know what to expect when we drove out to meet a porcelin painter. This is not a medium I’m familiar with. When we got to Lee’s house I was totally amazed. What a talent and what a sweet woman.

Enjoy the latest episode. I know I will

Back to Work

Today was the first day I felt a little like my old self. I have found that I don’t bounce back like I used too. Getting older is tough.

My little craft shop in Brasstown is filling up. Last week Micheal Sweeney brought by some rustic furniture pieces. (small things, for a small shop) Today Tipper from Blind Pig and The Acorn came by with some of her primitave art. You all need to check out her blog. She tells wonderful stories about growing up in this area. I was a fan of her blog long before I met her. I’m so glad we finally met.

Check your local papers for craft shows in your area and attend them. This is THE season for craft shows. If you are in the San Antonio, Texas area, there is a good show at the Live Oak Civic Center this weekend. It’s the Randolph Officers’ Wives Club annual craft show. My brother and his wife will be there. If you go and run into them (they do yard art) tell them you read about them on my blog. My brother will really get a laugh out of that.

Support your local artists. It’s good for the community.

Old Sayings

I had been sailing thru allergy season without a problem until last weekend. Then it got me. Ears, nose, throat, anywhere allergies effect. I thought I could beat it but it got me. So as my mother-in-law used to say “I’ve been sick as a dog” I thought I could manage doing a craft show in Franklin this weekend because my husband would be there to help. This morning, he was “sick as a dog, too”.

The craft show is the 16th Annual Smoky Mountain Fall Art and Craft Fest. It’s in the Macon County Fairgrounds on 441 South. The show is Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It’s a really great show. I hate missing it. But if you’all are in the area please check it out, you won’t be sorry.  Show hours are 10 am to 5 pm all three days.

Another New Friend

This is my new friend Dana. She makes soap and sugar scrubs. I first found Dana’s great blog, oldredbarnco.com, then heard people  talking about how great her soap was, so I knew I had to do an episode about her. (Don’t know when it will be up but will let you’all know as soon as I do)  This picture  tells you what you need to know about her. She has spunk.  Check out her blog, it’s great.

Speaking of new episodes, there will be a new one on Monday. It features Graham White. Graham is a wood turner. I know you will be as fascinated as I was watching him turn an ordinary piece of wood into a work of art.

I still have more pictures to share, so check back tomorrow.

Old Friends

These are my old friends, Ricki and Donna. They are sisters-in-law and have been doing crafts together for years. I met them when we all had our crafts in a craft co-op. Ricki crochet’s really wonderful pieces. I can’t crochet so I really admire her talent. Her sister-in-law is a painter. Everything she paints is beautiful.  Because of back problems she may have to quit painting. I really hope she gets better. Her talent should be shared with the world.

New Friend

There’s an old Girl Scout song about making new friends but keep the old. Today I would like to introduce you to a new friend.  His name is Theron and he takes the most amazing photos. I met Theron at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Murphy several months ago and was thrilled to see him at the Fall Festival.  He has a site on www.etsy.com if you would like to check out his work. He didn’t have a card and I forgot to go back and get the site name but I’m sure if you search etsy.com you can find him. He even makes the frames for his prints.

More Fall Festival

October 7th, 2008

As I promised, there will be days of posts and pictures.

You’all remember Judy Peppers from the very first episode of Carolina Crafting. Judy was in the Festival Barn. Her jewelry is awesome. She has a neat, new shop in Brasstown. She just  moved down the street from her old shop (I rented her old space.) and not only sells her own work but that of others, as well. She teaches bead making at the shop, too.

Below is Cal Fenner. Cal had an episode in Season 1.  I love his rugs. His use of color is amazing.  A couple stopped by my booth on Saturday afternoon and I notice that they had purchased one of Cal’s rugs. It was the most interesting use of Fall colors.

Check our both Judy’s and Cal’s web sites.  Their link is on my site.

Tomorrow will feature some old and new friends. Check back.
