Alaska

Greetings from Alaska. Sadly, I had to come to Anchorage, Alaska for my uncle’s funeral. I have been helping the estate despose of a life time of memeories. The logistics of getting things out of the house and much of it donated to worthy causes has been overwhelming. Two really great things have happened since I arrived. The first was that I met Mary Long from North Carolina. It was so good to hear a Southern accent. The second wonderful thing was that when I was just too bogged down with questions I went shopping in a quilt shop. The shop workers and a customer listened to my tale of woe and came up with some wonderful ideas even going as far as making copies of numbers for me to call. One lady even called her husband for ideas. Once again proving that the art community, no matter what medium, is always there to support you when you need it. So thanks to all the great women in Three Sisters Fabric shop on Huffman for their support.

I’m going to a Farmers Market on Saturday that is supposed to have many crafters there. I’ll tell you all about it, the next time I can post a message.

Time for another show. This week we will feature Cal Fenner, a local rug weaver. Cal has featured his work from coast to coast. His hand woven place mats are featured in the gift shop of the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. and his rugs can be seen on his web site. Check out the link.

The craft show in Murphy yesterday got rained on. The crafters that were there had a good day. I love home town celebrations. Takes you back to the good old days.

Now that Spring is here and craft shows are starting again, to buy handmade gifts. Plan ahead for holidays and birthdays. Support your local artists.

Happy Crafting

Murphy’s Eleventh Annual Spring Festival will be Saturday, May 3, from 10 AM to 4 PM. This festival is sponsored by The Heritage Partners of Cherokee County, Good Neighbors Car Club and the Town of Murphy. (rain date is Sunday, May 3)  There will be lots of arts and crafts, good food, dancers from the Folk School and a car show. It is in downtown Murphy. The weekly farmer’s market will be open, too.

Yesterday I went to the ribbon cutting/grand opening of Creative Country Crafters at Peddler’s Village on Highway 64, west of Murphy. The shop features local crafters. I met most of the crafters who have booths in the store and some are interested in having a segment on Carolina Crafting. I’m looking forward to featuring them.
